“Knock Us Down” is the first single from The Sweetest Condition’s second full-length album, “We Defy Oblivion.” The song questions authority, religion and abuse, and answers it with rebellion, retaliation and revolution.
“The world is in crisis,” says vocalist and lyricist Leslie Irene Benson. “Political, economic and societal structures are deteriorating. Those in power have led us astray. We are living on a hotbed of frustration, on the verge of the next revolution. But no matter how bad things get, we’re going to fight for what’s right. If you push us, we won’t fall down. Together, we are united and strong.”
PRESS REVIEWS:
“‘Knock Us Down’ reflects upon the current political, societal and economic situation on the global scale. Leslie and Jason took the opportunity to speak about it loudly through their art. And the brutal honesty is there. ‘Knock Us Down’ is as direct as it can be, and the song contains the essence of the whole album.” –Marija Buljeta, ALTvenger Magazine, UK, Nov. 14, 2016, www.altvenger.com/the-sweetest-condition-we-defy-oblivion-album-review/
“‘Knock Us Down‘ has a much faster beat and having the potential to become a club classic. Even when this song is lyrically a political inspired one, it’s absolutely danceable. Free according to the German slogan: ‘Tanzt kaputt, was euch kaputt macht!’” –Thomas Frenken, Electrozombies, Germany, 3.9/5 Stars, Nov. 2, 2016,

“Certain songs, such as ‘Keep Turning Me On’ and ‘Knock Us Down’ are so brilliantly executed with such skill and enthusiasm that they have the ability to become club classics for years to come.” – His Divine Shadow, 925|Rebellion, South Africa, 925rebellion.com/the-sweetest-condition-we-defy-oblivion/
We’ve always lived inside the lines—
Right wing, Left hook — clouding our minds,
Holding us back, but not this time.
We were raised
on confusion,
products of misinformation.
Never got our
story straight.
This time—
it’s too late.
We’re drowning in our
discontent.
I don’t trust the
government.
It’s a
conspiracy. You
only know
what they want you to see!
Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!
Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!
You don’t control us with your fear.
We won’t submit and disappear.
We were raised on
promises.
So I picket the whitewash
fences.
Nothing’s ever
as it seems.
I don’t want
the American Dream.
You surrender
all you are—
only living
from afar.
But I’ll make
my own way. For-
get tomorrow.
Live for today!
Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!
Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!
We were raised on
promises.
So I picket the whitewash
fences.
Nothing’s ever
as it seems.
I don’t want
the American Dream.
You surrender
all you are—
only living
from afar.
But I’ll make

Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!
Knock us down,
but we’re still standing!

Bandcamp is my favorite app. Without Bandcamp I would missed out on a lot of great music like Empathy Test! A wonderful album. Occasionally bombastic with nice synths and the voice of Isaac Howlett on top. Well done guys💪🏽 Fredschuit
Three new songs and three remixes from Italian darkwavers Ash Code will surely grace goth club speakers once we can go pick cobwebs again. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 9, 2021
It's uncanny just how good Actors is at emulating that Post-Punk synth sound from my younger days.
Each listen just gets better and better. I feel slightly ashamed for not having heard this album until a few short days ago. modestwriggles
